TZO Support - Should I use a downloadable TZO client, or one built into my router/DVR/NAS device etc?
There are two main configurations for using a TZO update client: a downloaded TZO application on your PC, or the built-in TZO client found on most popular network hardware (routers, DVRs, cameras, NAS devices etc).
If you have the choice, the software client you install on your computer is usually the better choice. The reason for this suggestion is if something goes wrong then our Support will be familiar with our own software, options, and types and meaning of the error messages.
Hardware-based dynamic DNS clients usually work quite well, however you should check your hardware device model against the TZO's list of third-party Certified Update Clients (formerly "TZO Certified Router List"). Note that if your hardware is not listed in our database, it simply means we have no information at this time however their TZO client will probably work fine. For TZO clients built into hardware firmware (such as a router or camera) it is strongly advised to update that device to the manufacturer's most recent software update as often such updates include many fixes.
If none of your network hardware contains TZO support (or you are prevented from changing the network router), and your network does not maintain a continually powered-on PC, this would not be a typical scenario (however there are workarounds in those cases also).
