Domain Registration HOWTO
Choose and Configure Domain Name
Under Services menu, select 'Domain Registration'. On this page you will configure your Domain 'name', your Domain Registration service duration, and (optional) 'Domain Privacy'.
When specifying the domain name you want, please type only the 'base' of the domain (the 'example' in 'example.com'). Then choose your top-level domain (TLD) suffix from the pull down menu: .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .name, .us, .mobi. If you wish to register your domain in another TLD, please contact TZO Sales.
Configure Domain Name (Registration Duration and Expiration)
For Domain Registration service duration, choose 1, 2, or 5 years. Once ordered, do not allow your Domain Registration to become expired as that will disrupt your domain-name based services, and you could lose the domain name permanently.
Expiration causes all of your domain's services (web, email, etc) to cease to function., and if left expired for long the domain goes into 'domain redemption' state. Domains in redemption cost more to restore the Domain Registration, and eventually the domain becomes open to purchase by anyone in the public (at other Domain Registrars, etc.). For these reasons it is best to order Domain Registration for 5 years. TZO will send a service renewal reminder before the domain expires however you should ensure TZO and your WHOIS both are updated to your current email address.
Configure Domain Name (Domain Privacy and Domain Contact Information)
'Domain Privacy' is optional, and there are both benefits and drawbacks to this feature explained as follows. ICANN (the body responsible for all registered domain names) requires that every Domain Registration have public database of domain 'Contact Information', which you supply later in the order process. For example, WHOIS contact information requires a valid mailing address and phone number, and you may not want this information in the public WHOIS database.
Please do not enter false WHOIS Contact information &em; this can lead to ICANN revoking your domain registration. If you want to keep your Domain Registration information private, the Domain Privacy feature will create "valid and working" Contacts which meets ICANN requirements. The Domain Privacy contacts will forward communication to you or auto-respond on your behalf.
The only drawback to using Domain Privacy is that some spam filters might treat mail you send as possible spam (based on the presumption that legitimate businesses do not cloak their identity). Normally this is not a problem as modern anti-spam systems would not rely on any single test such as this.
Configure Add To Cart
If you are not currently logged into the TZODNS website, you will be asked to login at this time. If you lost your TZO website login details, a link will allow you to resend this information to your email address.
If you have previously ordered from TZO and you (then) opted to not create a TZO website account, you will need to pause your order for a moment and create your TZO website account now. Once your email address is verified, your may complete your order.
After adding your domain to the TZODNS cart, you must Review and Accept the TZODNS Terms of Service. Then press the button 'Configure Details' to continue...
WHOIS Contact Information
Please note that ICANN rules require valid contact information for your domain; please enter this information now. If any of this information changes after your order (new email address, etc) please remember to update it in the TZO Control Panel.
NOTE: If you have enabled Domain Privacy, this contact information is still recorded by TZODNS and ICANN, just hidden from the public WHOIS domains database.
Checkout
The last remaining step is to choose your Payment Method, complete Cart Checkout, and you will have email confirmation in a few minutes. In most cases it takes only a few minutes for the domain to become visible in WHOIS at which point you may configure your DNS or network or applications to use the new domain name.
