Setting a Static LAN IP Address on your Iomega StorCenter
Introduction
It's important that if you plan on accessing your Iomega StorCenter remotely, you should set a static LAN IP address on the StorCenter before activating remote access. In this example, we have our StorCenter behind a Linksys WRT54GS router. The default IP address range on the Linksys Router is 192.168.1.1
Requirements
Note: If you do not have a Linksys router, or your router LAN IP range is different from 192.168.1.1, set the Iomega StorCenter device to a Static IP address according to your network layout
-
1Logging In
To set a static IP when using a Linksys router, we suggest an IP address of 192.168.1.200 or higher up to 192.168.1.253. By setting the IP of the Iomega StorCenter to 192.168.1.200 or higher you avoid IP conflicts with DHCP IP ranges and if you ever have a power outage and the Iomega StorCenter reboots, your StorCenter will not change IP's.
.
Log in to the Iomega StorCenter device by going to https://IPAddress (where IP Address is the IP address of your Iomega StorCenter) and then log in using the admin username and password. In this case, our Iomega StorCenter device was at https://192.168.1.103, since it was set to be using DHCP.
-
2Access Network Settings
Once you log in, you will be at the Home Page for the StorCenter device. Click the Settings tab and then select Network Services as shown in the screenshot shown below.
-
3Edit Network Settings
You will be presented with the Network Services screen - click Network Settings as shown below.
-
4Setting the Static IP
You will now be presented with the Iomega StorCenter IP and DNS options screen as shown below. To set a Static IP, you first need to uncheck the "Automatically configure all network settings" and then enter in the following information as shown in the screenshot below.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This static LAN IP address of 192.168.1.200 is typically a "safe" LAN IP address to set for your StorCenter device to, provided local router is set up to use 192.168.1.1 - In most cases, if you have a Linksys router, this will be the case. If you do not have a Linksys router and/or your IP address of your router is not 192.168.1.1, then you should consult with someone that can help you set a static LAN IP according to your network layout.
DNS should be set to 192.168.1.1 (as shown below)
IP ADDRESS: 192.168.1.200 (as shown below)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (as shown below)
Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (as shown below) -
5Applying the Settings
Click the Apply button and you will then be prompted to restart your Iomega StorCenter device. Once the device restarts, you can then then log back in to your StorCenter using the IP address of 192.168.1.200
Now that you have properly set up a Static LAN IP on your StorCenter, you can go back into the device and set up remote access.
